Thanks to the Barony of the Flame for a great event. The fighting was wonderful with plenty of skilled fighters in the lists. There were three seperate tournaments, a spear tourney, a viking tourney, and a double elimination chance tourney to benefit Apilacia Santa. Extra lives were available with the donation of a childs coat. Since I did not have a coat, my friend Lady Cope donated one on my behalf.
My performance was marginal a best. I did not participate in the spear tourney, but chose to concentrate my efforts on the viking and chance tourneys. The viking tourney was fought within a ten foot square. If either combatant stepped out of the square, they were considered dead. The viking tourney was fought in a bear pit style in which the winner of the round held the list until defeated. In my first two rounds I attempted to rush my opponent and force him out of the square. Unfortunately for me, my opponents were not intimidated and retailated quickly to vanquish me. In my third round I settled in, got in my stance, and chose my shots. In this manner I defeated my next two opponents one of wich was my house brother Luther. I was then removed from the list when my opponent and I struck killing blows simultaneously, and for the sake of time double kills were not re-fought.
In the first round of the chance tourney, my opponent and I exchanged blows for several minutes. After I tired out, my opponent struck my leg's and then finished me off with a rap shot to the head. In the second round, I was widdled down by my opponent. He first took my arm, he then gave me a point of honor and removed his own arm from the fight. He then struck my legs and then my other arm to render me helpless and defeated. In my third match I faired somewhat better. My opponent and I struggled to get through each others defences for some time. She eventually connected with a questionable blow to my helm. After we agreed that the blow was to light to be considerd a kill, the match continued. I then , seeing no other way around her tight defence, knocked her shield out of the way and landed a solid head blow to win the match. In the fourth round of the tourney I faced my house brother and mentor Big John McLelon. John fought, as always, with much chilvalry and honor. We spared long and hard with John wounding my arm. He then graciously wounded his own arm to even up the fight. We then struck each other simultaniously resulting in a double kill. After the fight was re-started Jhon finished me with a well placed blow to the head. This effectively removed me from the tournament and ended my fighting for that day.
Overall it was an enjoyable day, even if I was not completely satisfied with my performance. I did not stay around long enough to see who the winners were so if someone knows please e-mail me and let me know.
